Mumbling as a Potential Marker of Posttraumatic Distress

This study sought to examine whether mumbling might, for some youths, arise among traumatic sequelae. College students provided retrospective reports of and completed standardized measures trauma history posttraumatic distress (Brief Trauma Questionnaire, Beck Anxiety Inventory Primary Care, Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Brief Fear Negative Evaluation Scale). Mumbling was associated with a higher likelihood sexual abuse but not other forms trauma. Several were significantly elevated those who reported (Fear Evaluation, Difficulty Identifying Feelings, Describing – first two accounting significant specific variance). Findings suggest that in young people could be sign encourages screening distress.
